Jordan's rash.........before it got bad!!! He reacted to his antibiotic!!
For those of you who don't know....Jordan got really, really sick the Thursday before Christmas. What started out as, what I thought, a normal cold quickly took a turn for the worse!!! I took him to our Dr's walk in clinic on Saturday the 20th of December and they thought he might have strep so they put him on Amoxicillin. By Monday morning, he was noticeably worse. Took him back to his Dr and they said he had an abcess on his tonsil and possibly mono and wanted us to be very careful watching him because it could cause airway obstruction and put him on Augmentin and told us to follow up on Christmas Eve day. Well, Christmas Eve day he was even worse!!! You know Jordan is sick when he won't talk. He was in extreme pain and we were alternating between Ibuprofen and Tylenol every three hours with little relief. Well, the Dr thought the abcess was no better and wanted to send us to an Ear, nose, throat doctor in LaGrande to have the abcess drained. When he called the Dr, he found out that he was off until after New Year's!!! The next best thing we could do was get a CT scan of his tonsil and then if needed, drive to Boise that day and have a Dr there admit him and do the procedure. Needless to say, we were praying that wouldn't be the case!!! Well we headed to the hospital for the CT and it had to have IV contrast to "light" up the soft tissue in the tonsil area. Well, Jordan wanted no part of the needle for the IV. It ended up taking six of us to hold him down to get the IV started. After the CT scan, they sent us back to the Dr's office. At the office the Dr told us the abcess wasn't as bad as they had originally thought, but still dangerous. They wanted to treat Jordan with a round of IV antibiotics (luckily they had left the IV in!!!) So we were off again, back to the hospital. We then had him admitted as an outpatient procedure and had the IV's started. By this time we were all exhausted!!! Well, we made it home about four that afternoon. The IV antibiotics really seemed to work, thank the lord! We were still giving him Augmentin also. By Saturday morning, Jordan was much improved (talking again!!) but woke up with a horrible rash!!! It was an allergic reaction to the Augmentin... Well, of course, because it was the weekend after Christmas our Dr's office had no walk in clinic that day.... We ended up taking him to another walk in clinic where the Dr was wonderful!!! He said Jordan was having an allergic reaction, put him on yet another antibiotic and a steroid for the rash.... We followed up with our Dr on Monday and Jordan was finally on the road to recovery!!! It was a long two weeks, but I am happy to report he is much better, almost 100% again!!!!
